Pie Baking & Chili in Glassell Park – GNET

1081

By Fernanda Jimenez GNET Photos By Herb West The National Night Out event was a success! Individuals from the Glassell Park neighborhood joined the pie baking contest. We would like to congratulate the winner, Madeline Bryant. Her pie was called “Grandmas Pecan Pie.” She won for overall appearance, crust color, texture, and flavor. The three judges really loved this pie.   Not only was there a pie baking contest, there was also a chili cook-off contest. We would also like to congratulate the winner, Jantzn May. He won for having great flavor, spice, taste, aroma, and color. To make this more interesting, the judges did not know the names of the participants. They were both really great contests that people looked forward to seeing the winners & tasting their entries.

Reflections on National Night Out – GNET

1001

By Natalie Estrada Photos By Herb West G-NET On August 4th at the Senior Center, the Glassell Park Neighborhood Council presented the National Night Out event. This event was welcome to everyone and it wasn’t just an ordinary event. Booths were set up distributing free goodies for all individuals living in this area. They happily indulged in hamburgers, hot dogs, rice , chicken, salads and much more. While LA city work trucks were on display Glassell Youth was able to touch, explore and color in stencils of the trucks. Some adults had the opportunity to be a part of a chili and pie competition. With that being said, G-NET would like to congratulate Jantzan May for winning the chili contest and Madeline Bryant for winning the pie contest. G-NET and the Glassell Park Neighborhood Council would also like to thank the Los Angeles Fire Department, Hook and Ladder & Fire Engine, The Los Angeles Police Department, Construction vehicles, LA Sanitation, California Highway Patrol and many more. We would especially like to thank Real Rock ...
