March 11th: Glassell Park “Super Adoption” Pet Fair


On March 11th, next Saturday, we will be hosting a “Super Adoption” Pet Fair at the GP Community Center. Best Friends Animal Society, Pardon the Pups, and the ASPCA will be providing free adoptions. The Amanda Foundation will be present to provide free spay/neuter services for all who qualify (services will be held on Sunday the 12th), plus low-cost vaccinations! Our newest business, the Affordable Animal Hospital on Eagle Rock Blvd, will also be joining us alongside Home Dog LA. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday morning! Whether you’re looking for a new furry friend or you just want to enjoy the puppy party, come join us! Grassroots Community Meeting to discuss Walnut Canyon / Abode Development 2/9/17 @ 7pm


A local group of grassroots community activists together with NELA GreenSpace, who want to preserve Walnut Canyon as greenspace are meeting on Thursday evening, 2/9/17 @ 7pm to discuss next strategies and, specifically, receive professional advice about how to most effectively critique & object to the DEIR (draft environmental impact report) that the Abode developers have submitted with the intention of going forward with their project. Community Meeting – 1/28 at 10am – Walnut Canyon Threatened with Abode Development!


The GPNC is co-sponsoring a community meeting on Saturday, January 28th at 10am with the GPIA. The developers of the Abode project will be present to provide a presentation and will be accepting questions from the public. It will be, like all GPNC meetings, at the Glassell Park Community & Senior Center at 3750 Verdugo Rd, Los Angeles, CA 90065 (behind the Public Storage building). An announcement from our local grassroots neighborhood greenspace advocacy group, NELA GreenSpace: For some time, NELA GreenSpace has been fighting to save natural open space in the neighborhood of Glassell Park — fighting to save beautiful canyons and hillsides that have no legal protection against development. We want to preserve these spaces for the benefit of everyone who lives in Northeast Los Angeles. Today, there is an urgent need to protect Walnut Canyon, a beautiful hillside with mature walnut trees and native wildlife, which faces complete destruction by a proposed development of 32 new homes. This large development is called Abode at Glassell Park. TARGET in Glassell Park – Community Meeting Jan 12th at 7pm


There has been much discussion about the proposed Target store at the site of the old Fresh & Easy location at 4211 Eagle Rock Blvd. The Glassell Park Improvement Association has arranged to have representatives of Target Corporation come from Minneapolis to attend their meeting this Thursday, January 12th. They, along with staff from Council District 14, will do a presentation about this proposed project and answer audience questions. Please come and bring your ideas for what you’d like to see!

BONC (Board of Neighborhood Commissioners) Meeting Tonight! 6pm!

Message from our East Area BONC rep: The Department of Neighborhood Empowerment would like to extend a special invitation to all Glassell Park NC and East Area Neighborhood Council board members, past and present, to attend the Board of Neighborhood Commissioners (BONC) meeting on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, 6 pm at the Glassell Park Community & Senior Center (3750 Verdugo Rd, Los Angeles, CA 90065) During the meeting, BONC will dedicate a portion of their meeting to recognize the 15 Year Anniversary of the Glassell Park Neighborhood Council. Planning & Land Use Meeting


The Glassell Park Neighborhood Council’s Planning & Land Use Committee (PLUC) is meeting tonight (12/8) @ 7pm. Developers for properties at 3564 Kinney Street and 3553 E. Lavell Drive are confirmed to attend; however, they have not confirmed that they followed committee instructions to notify residents within 500 feet of properties to be discussed. There will also be someone from CD14 to share what is currently known (not much, yet) about the very recent application (by Target) to move in to the Fresh & Easy lot.  Your feedback on this matter is very much welcome and encouraged! If you live near these sites, or just want to participate in discussions about land use in Glassell Park, please join us at 7pm for tonight’s meeting.
